A role mandated by the GDPR for organizations that process large amounts of personal data or monitor people systematically. The DPO independently monitors privacy compliance, advises on data protection impact assessments, and serves as the contact point for regulators and data subjects. The role must be free from conflicts of interest and cannot be punished for doing its job.
