PIV

Personal Identity Verification

identitymedium

PIV is the US federal standard, defined in FIPS 201, for smart card credentials issued to government employees and contractors. Each card binds a person's verified identity to cryptographic keys and certificates used for building access and system login. It provides strong, phishing-resistant authentication and is a model for high-assurance identity programs beyond government.
