PPTP

Point-to-Point Tunneling Protocol

protocolsmedium

PPTP is an early VPN protocol from the 1990s, once popular because Windows supported it natively. Its authentication (MS-CHAPv2) and encryption are thoroughly broken, and captured sessions can be cracked. It survives only in legacy environments and should be replaced with IPsec, OpenVPN, or WireGuard.
