RDDOS

Ransom Distributed Denial of Service

attacksmedium

An RDDoS attack pairs extortion with a denial of service threat: the attacker sends a ransom demand, often backed by a short demonstration flood, and threatens a sustained attack unless paid by a deadline. Many campaigns are bluffs from groups impersonating known actors, so the standard guidance is not to pay and instead to confirm upstream DDoS mitigation and rate limiting are in place before the deadline.
