RDP

Remote Desktop Protocol

networkeasy

RDP is Microsoft's protocol for remotely controlling a Windows desktop or server over the network, typically on TCP port 3389. Because it grants full interactive access, RDP exposed to the internet is one of the most common entry points for ransomware operators, who brute-force weak passwords or buy stolen credentials. Best practice is to keep RDP behind a VPN or gateway, require MFA, and enable Network Level Authentication.
