SPIFFE Runtime Environment
SPIRE is the open source production implementation of the SPIFFE standard for workload identity. It verifies what a workload is through attestation of its node and process, then issues it a short-lived cryptographic identity document automatically. This replaces hardcoded secrets and API keys for service-to-service authentication, a foundation for zero trust in cloud and Kubernetes environments.
