GenAI is the umbrella term for AI systems that create new content (text, images, code, audio, video) rather than just classifying or ranking what already exists. It covers large language models, image generators, and coding assistants. Most corporate AI policies, and most of the new risks like deepfakes, data leakage through prompts, and hallucinated facts stated confidently, live under this umbrella.
