SANS is the training organization behind most GIAC certifications, and it also publishes widely used free resources such as the Internet Storm Center, reading room whitepapers, and incident response templates. Training is delivered as multi-day courses that pair directly with a GIAC exam attempt. In practice people say SANS when they mean the course and GIAC when they mean the credential that follows it.
