A TTX is a discussion-based exercise where a team walks through a simulated incident scenario, such as a ransomware outbreak, without touching real systems. Participants talk through their roles, decisions, and escalation paths to find gaps in the incident response plan before a real crisis. It matters because plans that look fine on paper often fall apart the first time people actually rehearse them.
