CIP refers to the family of NERC standards (CIP-002 through CIP-015) that impose cybersecurity requirements on the bulk electric system, covering asset categorization, security management controls, personnel and training, electronic security perimeters, physical security, system security management, incident reporting, recovery plans, and supply chain risk. More broadly the term also describes national programs to secure sectors such as water, transport, and energy.
