SLM

An SLM is a language model deliberately kept small enough to run cheaply, sometimes entirely on a laptop or phone. What it gives up in breadth it returns in cost, speed, and privacy, since prompts never need to leave the device. Expect to see them embedded in products and endpoints, which quietly moves AI risk from a few cloud contracts to every device in the fleet.
